Our Mission & Philosophy
The mission of Calvary Early Learning Center is to share God's grace through the education and enrichment of young children. Our guiding educational philosophy is that every child is a gift from God, full of potential and ready to be nurtured in mind, body and spirit. Calvary offers a Christian learning environment for children ages 2 through 6. Our well-balanced program supports emotional, social, cognitive, physical and spiritual development. Children are allowed to develop at their own readiness with the needs of the "whole child" as the focus. Calvary Early Learning Center joins other Lutheran schools as a member of the Pittsburgh Area Lutheran School System (PALS).

A Place for Your Child
At Calvary Early Learning Center your child will find a loving, caring environment where he or she can explore the world and prepare for the challenges ahead in their educational future. Each child will receive individual attention to help them reach their full potential. Our classrooms are fun, safe, and welcoming spaces where your child can learn and grow.

Growing in Faith
All children, regardless of faith or church affiliation, are welcome at Calvary. We include in our classrooms beginning concepts in the Christian faith. We believe that children benefit from learning about God at an early age. Children learn about God's creation, and experience how God loves and cares for them each and every day through our weekly Bible lessons.

Healthy Bodies
There's more to a child's first experience at school than ABC's and 123's. A healthy adult body begins early in childhood with plenty of active play. Our indoor gym area, outdoor play area, and bike riding days provide great ways to keep your child moving. Children grow so fast and their bodies need lots of movement and spirited play to stay strong.

Glue, Paint, Glitter and Other Sticky Stuff!
Children love to dive in with both hands-whether it is finger paint, glue, crayons, markers or play dough! Getting little fingers moving in new ways with diverse materials helps promote fine motor skills and reinforces mind-body connections in the developing brain. Art also helps small children learn to express and understand their feelings. We encourage this kind of play and make sure that your child has hands-on activities to keep their creative juices flowing!

Laura Hoff was called to serve as Kindergarten teacher at Calvary Early Learning Center in 2007. Prior to that she taught for 21 years in 3 different Lutheran schools. Mrs. Hoff loves teaching the Kindergarteners for many reasons. The small class size at CELC gives her an opportunity to give individualized instruction to the students. Mrs. Hoff is very excited about being able to provide the foundation for new readers. It is a wonderful time when children recognize their first words and then begin to sound them out on their own. Her all-time favorite reason for teaching and enjoying Kindergarten is being able to teach about Jesus and praying with the children each day. Their child-like faith helps to strengthen her own.

Megan Snider joined the staff of CELC as an aide in the spring of 2016.  She was a member of the CELC school board for several years, including serving a term as president, before joining the staff.  Megan’s passion for sharing God’s love with little ones compelled her to make the jump into a formal teaching role.  She has also enjoyed teaching Sunday School to preschool and elementary school children for more than a decade.  Prior to teaching, Megan was a Corporate and Government Public Relations consultant.  Megan has a bachelor’s degree in English Writing, with a Creative Writing Emphasis from the University of Pittsburgh.
